The Singapore-based science journal ‘Asian Scientist’ publishes each year a list of Asia's 100 best scientists for important contributions across the branches of science. It has been doing so every year since 2016. Three Bangladeshi names appear on the journal's list of the top 100 scientists this year (2021).
The three scientists are Salma Sultana, Firdausi Qadri and Saima Sabrina.
Salma Sultana is the chairman of Bangladesh's Model Livestock Advancement Foundation (MLAF). In 2020 she received the Norman E. Borlaug Award and recognition from the World Food Prize Foundation for her role in veterinary care and education for Bangladesh's farmers.
Firdausi Qadri is a researcher at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b). In 2020 she received the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award for her contribution to global immunisation programmes in diagnosing and preventing infectious diseases in children in the developing world.
Saima Sabrina is a professor at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). In 2020 she received the OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Award for Early-Career Women Scientists in the Developing World for her research on the use of nanomaterials.
According to the Asian Scientist website, those who received a national or international award for research in the previous year are included in this list. In this case the list published is of 100 people who made contributions in 2020.
