A rumour and a misconception are spreading on social media that Facebook will be renamed Meta. That is entirely wrong. What has actually changed is the name of Facebook, Inc. — the business entity behind the Facebook service, WhatsApp and Instagram.

Facebook, Inc. Is Now Meta!

The parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram has been Facebook, Inc. until now, but from here on it will do business as Meta, Inc., the company's chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has said. The announcement was made public on 28 October after long speculation.
